On Sunday, J.K. Rowling shared a brilliantly awkward anecdote about a time she was nearly recognised by a drunk man in a bar — and in doing so, she kick-started a brief thread of celebrities sharing their own, similarly cringy stories.
It all started when a student tweeted at Rowling to say she looks like Celine Dion.
@jk_rowling Has anyone ever told you that you look like Celine Dion?

Turns out he wasn't the first person to make the comparison, either.
Yes, a lady in an expensive clothing store who was trying to sell me a dress covered in sequins and feathers (true). https://t.co/jotHXRPkLN

Then, a man named Darren Whitfield tweeted this follow-up question.
@jk_rowling Has anyone ever said you look like yourself but were convinced it wasn't you?

Rowling's response has since been shared over 11,000 times:
A drunk man in a bar squinted at me & said 'are you JK Rowling?' I panicked & said 'no'. 'Yeah, didn't think so. She's better looking.' https://t.co/7358hlqU2O

The Harry Potter author's story prompted some responses from celebrities who'd had similarly awkward encounters.
@PattyArquette @jk_rowling @darrenwhitfield i get the "no offense but, do you know who you look like?" (do i win?) 😘

@jk_rowling @darrenwhitfield People always say I look like Patricia Arquette then they tell me "but she's taller than you".

Finally, to round the whole thing off, Rowling did what Rowling on Twitter does best: she calmly shut down a troll.
Possibly the same guy. Similar vibe. pic.twitter.com/OyUUm4fbrH
