J.K. Rowling and basketball player bond on Twitter over nasty 'Harry Potter' cut

Gigi Datome is an Italian professional basketball player who had a brief stint in the NBA but is better known for his super cool hair and beard. 

Now you can add another distinctive piece to Datome's look — one that gained him a famous new friend.

In a recent game, Datome suffered a nasty forehead gash. Look at this thing.

 Looks a bit familiar, doesn't it? 

Datome himself noticed the coincidence and used it to give a shoutout to J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series. 

Lo and behold! Rowling, who's something of a Twitter legend, wrote back a day later.

Finally, as noted by SB Nation, Rowling even follows Datome on Twitter now, an honor only 461 other people can claim. 

Magic, man. It's everywhere.
