Cornell women’s hockey standout Izzy Daniel made program history on Saturday, capping off a banner career. Daniel was named the winner of the prestigious Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, as National Player of the Year. In her 2nd straight season nominated, Daniel became the 1st for Cornell to claim the honor. One day later, the senior forward earned a 1st team All-American selection from the AHCA. The honor marks the 1st time a Cornell player earned a selection, since Canadian National Team and PWHL New York player Jamie Bourbonnais did so in 2020. Bourbonnais’ PWHL and Canadian National teammate Jill Saulnier was the last Cornell forward to be selected in 2014.

In addition to the national honors, Daniel took home Player of the Year awards in the ECAC and Ivy League. With a team leading 59 points on 21 goals and 38 assists, the standout earned a unanimous selection to the All-ECAC 1st Team. Daniel’s efforts helped the Big Red to an appearance in the NCAA Regional Finals and earned her an invite to Team USA Evaluation Camp.

Over 5 seasons (4 playing) with Cornell, Daniel finished 3rd in program history with 107 career assists and broke the single-season school record (38) in 2023-24. The Minnesota native’s 158 career points places her 5th in program history, while her 51 goals inks her in at 9th. With Daniel in Cornell red and white, the Big Red won 2 Ivy League titles and 2 ECAC regular season crowns, while appearing 3 times in the NCAA Tournament.

Daniel’s stellar career solidifies a legacy at Cornell that will ultimately place her in the program’s hall of fame. The standout has placed her name among top players to suit up for the Big Red, including international stars like; Rebecca Johnston, Brianne Jenner, Kristin O’Neil, Jamie Bourbonnais, Jill Saulnier, and more.

18 Sports will continue to follow the career of Daniel, as she chases a spot at the national level.
