Ivanka Trump and Marco Rubio followed their awkward hug attempt with some very awkward jokes
Ivanka Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio's extremely awkward hug yesterday just keeps on getting, well, more awkward.

Both Rubio and Trump took to Twitter Tuesday afternoon (along with Ivanka's younger brother, Donald Trump Jr.) to joke about the encounter pretty extensively.
Just left Intel comm & informed meeting 2day with @IvankaTrump blowing up twitter over alleged failed hug! Investigating. Will respond soon

Ivanka ventured down the "fake news" path, poking fun at Rubio's tweets about an "investigation" into his failed hug. Apparently, he's an excellent hugger, and according to anonymous sources, Rubio actually planned the failed hug that absolutely lit up the internet.
Fake news! Marco is an excellent hugger... https://t.co/Dk7XXRQlX8

You know, just having some fun using her father's favorite buzzwords.
Anonymous sources say @marcorubio planned the alleged failed hug. I have no comment (but I would have hugged him anyway! 🤗) https://t.co/TChrqWsL4D

Ivanka's brother Donald Trump Jr. got in on the fun, too. Apparently, he thinks we could use more hugs in politics ... even when they make us cringe.
There really needs to be more hugs in politics... even failed ones. 😂 @marcorubio @IvankaTrump https://t.co/gD5L3Aw890

However, despite the attempts to make light of a heavily covered, very important hug, the internet wasn't impressed.
A lot of people got pretty serious, actually, complaining about the jokes being made online.
And I forget... what was it @realDonaldTrump said about you during the primary debates, Marco? #SellOut. You're all destroying this country.

This is the worst distraction ever.
Healthcare Bill, please.
We would like to read it.— 🏳️🌈CaptainKieran (@KieranStrange) June 20, 2017
I'm sure this hug will mean so much to the 23 million people who will lose their Healthcare coverage under Trumpcare.

Tee-Hee-Hee!!! It's always cute when when people taking away healthcare and supporting Muslim bans make jokey jokes 😍😍😍☺️☺️☺️.

Is this really what you are tweeting about when millions of Americans might just end up with no healthcare at all? pic.twitter.com/DzuAcNyk9g

There were, however, plenty of lighthearted jokes in response to the tweets, as people riffed on the ongoing Russia investigation, and made more jokes about how uncomfortable the hug looked.
Has a Special Council been appointed yet to investigate? #HugGate

When will we get answers for HugGate?
— President Jeff (@PresidentJeffPJ) June 20, 2017
Even Chrissy Teigen got in on the fun, because is it really a Twitter moment if Chrissy isn't involved somehow?
LOL OH YOU TWO!

Even though the internet can't get past it, Rubio says no hug happened based on review. Guess the fake news got to everyone once again.
