We know for definite that ITV's hit crime series Unforgotten will be returning for a third series soon, but it's also now heading over to the States, too.

According to Deadline, US network ABC is set to air a remake of the popular series, which will feature a whole new cast, crew and even name.

Suspects – as it's now known by American fans – will blend "a cop drama procedural" with "a multi-generational soap", with an intelligent, driven female as its lead.

The original version, fronted by Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar, follows DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil Khan as they unravel the truth behind historical murder investigations.

Fortunately for us, we can still expect to see Cassie and Sunil back on our screens, as confirmed earlier this year, but any future beyond that is in doubt.

Chatting to Digital Spy back in February, Nicola Walker revealed that series creator Chris Lang "is not looking" to turn the drama into an enduring series. Boo.

"I can't imagine Chris allowing anyone else to write Unforgotten, so he has to be interested in coming back to it, and he is not looking to make this again and again, as far as I understand," she explained.

Unforgotten is not the only hit British drama that's been picked up by foreign audiences – a retelling of BBC's Doctor Foster is also in the works for Russian television.
