Ithaca juvenile arrested after hit and run

ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM) — An Ithaca juvenile was arrested after police say they found alcohol and drug paraphernalia in the juvenile’s vehicle when it returned to the scene of a crash after initially fleeing.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers were called to a hit and run on East Seneca Street at about 6 a.m. on March 9. Police say the vehicle involved was found in a nearby parking lot and fled recklessly at a high speed when officers attempted to make contact with the driver.

The vehicle returned shortly after fleeing, and the driver initially physically resisted the officers. The officers were able to calm the driver down, continue their investigation, and search the vehicle. They found alcohol bottles, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun magazine during the search and discovered that the driver was impaired.

The driver was arrested on multiple charges stemming from the incident. They are currently in police custody while awaiting arraignment in Ithaca City Court.

The driver is under the age of 18, and their name is not being released to the public at this time.
