It’s time for the second annual 'Hipster Games'

Everyone loves making fun of hipsters. The seemingly pretentious, apathetic denizens of trendiness would probably be making fun of themselves, but that’s so mainstream.

And with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" set to hit theaters this Friday, Wyoma Films has released a sequel to its 2012 viral hit, “The Hipster Games.”

“We wanted to come up with something that would express the ridiculousness of where we live, in Silver Lake, Calif.,” director Christopher Guerrero told Yahoo News in a phone interview. “How do you make something that’s life or death for people that are so apathetic?”

What they came up with is “The Hipster Games: Blowing Smoke,” in which last year’s winning hipsters, Loch Ness Evergeen and Falafel Malarkey, compete with hipsters from the past several generations, including Buddy Holly and Andy Warhol.

All the while, our hipsters navigate through their challenge implementing their skills of dumpster diving, avoiding “gluten traps” and hoping for a precious airlifted bottle of Sriracha sauce to provide some relief.

And it’s all orchestrated by Jello Biafra, ex-frontman of the seminal punk rock band the Dead Kennedys.

“She’s not who they think she is. She’s just a white girl with Goodwill jeans and an ’89 Celica,” Biafra declares. “Because of her, they all think they’re special. Because of her, they’re all drinking iced Americanos and listening to Daft Punk and Mumford and Sons.

So how does Guerrero define a hipster?

“Basically, they’re someone who doesn’t want to be called a hipster,” he says with a laugh. “It’s all about superficial things, what you like, what you listen to, what you eat. Whatever is cool at the time is what a hipster becomes.”

Or, as Evergeen declares, “I’m not a hipster, sir. I’m just quirky and unemployed.”
