iStat Menus for Mac review

iStat Menus for Mac provides you with detailed information about the various systems on your device, including CPU activity, memory usage, and more. With just a glance, you'll get a good idea about what's going on in your machine, and you can get much more detailed information by selecting one of the icons that sit in the top toolbar.

Pros

Detailed information: This app provides detailed information about CPU activity, Memory Usage, Disk Usage, Network Activity, Sensors such as Fan Speed and Temperature, Date and Time, and Battery. While you could have accessed at least some of this information on your own, the app puts it all in one place and makes it much easier to find whenever you need to.

Monitor switches: You can choose to monitor whatever combination of systems you want. Each category has its own switch on the main interface that you can slide off if you're not interested in displaying that information. You can also drag and drop the icons in the top toolbar to rearrange them to your liking.

Cons

Not for beginners: The information displayed in the program won't be of much use to anyone without a decent level of computer knowledge. While the program is easy enough to set up for a novice, there isn't enough explanation of anything to make the information displayed understandable to anyone but an experienced user.

Bottom Line

iStat Menus for Mac is a convenient addition to your computer, and it lets you get a quick glimpse inside whenever you need. The toolbar icons all provide basic information, and clicking them reveals much more detail in drop-down window form. You can try this program for 14 days, and the full purchase price is $16.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of iStat Menus for Mac 5.0.
