Israeli Newspapers: No War With Iran This Year

After watching Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, Israeli newspapers wrote off the potential for a war with Iran in 2012, The New York Times reported.

“The ‘decisive year’ of 2012 will pass without decisiveness,” wrote Ofer Shelah of Maariv newspaper on Friday, according to The Times.

Speaking before the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday, Netanyahu said he believes Iran will have acquired enough enriched uranium to build an atomic bomb by spring or summer of 2013 and called for a “clear red line” to warn Tehran they must stop enriching nuclear fuel before then.

Speculation continues over whether Israel might take military action to derail Iran’s nuclear program, even as Washington continues to urge sanctions and diplomatic pressure.

“The relevant question is not when Iran will get the bomb,” Netanyahu said. “It is at what stage can we stop Iran from getting the bomb.”
