ISP: Man who was asleep on Kennedy accused of striking IDOT employee

CHICAGO — A man is facing multiple felonies after allegedly striking an IDOT employee who was trying to wake him up on the Kennedy.

Just after 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, Illinois State Police said a vehicle was stopped in southbound lane 4 of the Kennedy, near the Hubbard Street cave.

An IDOT employee responded and attempted to wake up Angel Martinez, 25, of Chicago, according to police. The vehicle allegedly struck the employee and fled the scene.

The employee was injured and transported to a local hospital.

Martinez was taken into custody on Tuesday. He has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery against an emergency worker and failure to report an injury crash.
