Few strong storms possible west Sunday night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Warmer temperatures are on the way for Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, but with it comes a low-end chance of strong to severe storms on Sunday evening in our western counties.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed locations west of Interstate 65 under a level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms. This threat is valid from most of Southern Kentucky to the southwest corner of Middle Tennessee.

ALERTS | Weather advisories in Middle Tennessee

The primary storm hazards for any severe storm will be gusty winds and hail. If you see a storm, expect brief heavy rain and lightning. The tornado threat is very low, but not zero especially west of TN River.

RADAR | Track weather across TN live

The highest chance of seeing a strong storm will be near the Tennessee River and westward where the humidity and instability will be higher. As the storms move eastward they should weaken, though they may still produce lightning and thunder and brief downpours.

Breaking down the storm timing, it will not be until Sunday evening. Sunday, during the day will be warm with temps in the 70s and windy. Sunday evening, thunderstorms will develop in West TN and move across Middle TN through the overnight weakening as they move farther east.

FORECAST: Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky Weather

We’ll continue to watch this system closely. For the partial solar eclipse, we expect areas along and north of I-40 to have a better viewing. Monday night into Tuesday, more rain returns.
