ISIS tried to organize similar attacks in France, Macron says after shooting in Crocus City Hall

The ISIS terrorist group, which claimed responsibility for the shooting in the Russian suburbs of Moscow, previously tried to organize several similar attacks in France, French President Emmanuel Macron said on March 25.

"In recent months, this group has committed several assassination attempts on our territory," Macron said, BMF TV reported.

France has also offered Russia "enhanced cooperation" in the fight against terrorism, the French leader said. "France has proposed to the Russian services, as our partners in the region, an expansion of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, taking into account the information available to our services and elements that could be useful to the Russians."

Asked whether he would discuss this with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Macron said that "contacts will be made at the technical and ministerial level in the first place."

Background on the Crocus City Hall incident:

Several people on March 22 opened fire with assault rifles at visitors to the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, where a concert by the band Piknik was to take place.

The shooters also set fire to the building.Recent updates report a tragic death toll of 137 individuals, including three children, from the incident.

In the aftermath, Russian authorities have apprehended 11 suspects, hinting at a "Ukrainian trace" in the investigation, a narrative supported by the dictator Vladimir Putin and echoed across Russian media outlets. This claim aligns with the suspects' alleged plans to flee towards Ukraine.

Contrastingly, Ukrainian officials, including the Foreign Ministry and the Presidential Office, have firmly refuted these allegations, emphasizing Ukraine's non-involvement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the assertions linking Ukraine to the incident, critiquing Putin's delayed response.

Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation proposed an alternative theory, suggesting the event could be a Russian special service operation aimed at framing Ukraine, potentially to justify further mobilization efforts.

Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence indicates the likely involvement of the ISIS terrorist group, a theory supported by ISIS's own indirect admission through published images mirroring those of the suspects identified by the Russian FSB.

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War also believes that ISIS is most likely involved in the shooting at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow Oblast.
