Isaiah Horton: Why I signed with Miami Hurricanes football

The Daily News Journal asked Oakland senior Isaiah Horton to write in his own words why he chose to sign with Miami football.

So people are asking me why I chose to go to the University of Miami.

It is simple.

The U feels like home. Above anything else, I chose to attend the U because it is the right place, the right time and a wonderful opportunity to develop and become a part of history.

The University of Miami football program is kind of a big deal. I find it strange, though, that up until now I always thought and wanted to play in the SEC. I had never really had any interest in the ACC.

Growing up in Tennessee, playing in the SEC is every guy’s dream. But for me it was something about the U and what I can bring to the program

From the head coach to all the coaches I met at the University of Miami, they are unlike any other.

I am not going to lie. I was concerned when the coaching staff changed. But the University of Miami made me a priority and put all my concerns to rest quickly.

A lot of the new developments was shared with me, and I said to myself, “Yes, this will be a perfect fit.”

I am excited to play beside the current players and recruits I met from the class of 2022. The hospitality we experienced at the U was great for me and my family.

The one thing that stayed the same was how I felt. It felt like home.

The University of Miami is the ideal place for me. Beautiful weather, a balance between academics and life outside the classroom, and I get to play ball with some of the best!

I am thankful for this opportunity. And no matter what, I will always represent my home state of Tennessee.
