Isabel's Market + Eatery in Douglas listed for sale

DOUGLAS — Just four years after opening, Isabel’s Market + Eatery in Douglas is now on the market. According to a listing on Commercial Exchange, the specialty market is listed for sale for $2,750,000.

The listing includes 3,752-square-feet of market/bodega space, 1,750-square-feet of commercial kitchen and storage space, 1,436-square-feet of event space, two short-term rental apartments on the second level and 6,000-square-feet of outdoor entertaining space.

The sale also includes three liquor licenses including a Class C license, a Specially Designated Merchant license, and a Specially Designated Distributor license.

Although the business has been on the market for some time — Aug. 1, 2023, according to the listing — the realtor associated with the sale said ownership has tried to maintain a low profile regarding the sale.

Isabel’s first opened in Sept. 2020 following a $1.5 million renovation and expansion in 2019. The project included a new kitchen and equipment. Located at 310 Blue Star Highway, the location was the former home of Zing Eat/Drink and Blue Moon Bar and Grille.

The business was a collaboration of seven female business owners, including Elizabeth Estes and Mary Fechtig, co-owners of Coast 236 Restaurant and Bar; Mindy Trafman, general manager and chef at Coast 236; Vicky Cobb, a former chemist; Garnet Lewis, a former member of the Saugatuck City Council; Christine Bridger, co-owner of Company + Cottage; and Julie Longwell of Meraki Social.

The all-female team chose its name from a prominent woman in Douglas’ history, Isabel G. Graham. She was the daughter of Hugh Graham, who built Douglas United Church of Christ.

Among Graham’s legacy was her blue chip stock donation to the church that still benefits DUCC and local charities today.
