Ironwood police officers get props from city for ‘heroic efforts’ during Lutey’s Flower Shop fire

IRONWOOD, Mich. (WJMN) — City leaders in Ironwood recognized two local police officers for their efforts to rescue a woman from a smoke-filled building earlier this year.

A Thursday post on social media by the Ironwood Public Safety Department highlighted the acts of Public Safety Officers Colin Clausen and Kevin Stevens for their actions while dispatched to a fire at Lutey’s Flower Shop on March 19.

According to the post, the late-night fire happened during heavy winds which blew plumes of thick smoke into an adjacent building. Both officers were said to be immediately concerned for anyone who might have been in there.

We’re told both officers entered the building, and after calling out heard a woman respond. Through thick smoke, the pair found the woman in an upstairs bedroom and got her outside to safety.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Due to their swift actions, Director Andrew DiGiorgio gave both men Life-Saving Awards of Commendation on May 13.
