Iran's regional allies were informed about its aerial attacks on Israel in advance, Tehran's Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian says.

"We naturally informed our friends in regional countries 72 hours before the operation that Iran's response in the form of a legitimate defence is definite and certain," Amirabdollahian said in comments carried by the Iranian news agency ISNA.

It was not clear if Iran's allies were also informed of the attack's exact timing.

"We consider the security of our neighbours and the region as the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the minister said. "We have warned that if the United States uses the airspace or ground of certain countries to defend Tel Aviv, US military bases in those countries will be targeted."
