iPhone 7 may ditch the Space Gray model for a bold new color option

A somewhat sketchy rumor from Macotakara relays that Apple with the iPhone 7 might completely do away with the tried and true Space Grey iPhone and replace it with a brand new Deep Blue model. If the report is to be believed, Apple's iPhone 7 would be available in the following colors: Deep Blue, Gold, Rose Gold and Silver.

While Apple certainly isn't gun-shy about introducing new colors to spice up its product lineup, it would seem strange for Apple to completely phase out a color that, by all accounts, seems to be quite popular with users. What's more, discontinuing the Space Grey model would mean that there would be no next-generation iPhone model with a black casing on the front. And given that such a design has been a mainstay of every single iPhone going back to the original, this is one rumor that strikes us as a bit bogus.

Might Apple add a new color to its iPhone lineup? Sure. But we just can't see that happening at the expense of the venerable Space Grey model.

As a final point, Macotakara adds that the display on the iPhone 7 will be an LCD panel, perhaps erasing any hope some folks had for an OLED surprise announcement later this year. Not to worry, the iPhone 7s will likely satiate our thirst for a revolutionary new upgrade with reports that Apple in 2017 will release an iPhone with an edge to edge screen with the home button embedded underneath the display.
