iPhone 6s Breaks Sales Record with 13 Million

iPhone 6s Breaks First Weekend Sales Record with 13 Million

Apple fans came out in droves to pick up the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus this weekend. After 13 million units were sold, the sales record of 10 million units for the iPhone 6 was shattered.

The new 6s and 6s Plus don't look different from the previous generation, but they do sport some new features. The pressure sensitive 3D Touch screen allows you to long-press on a menu to bring up other navigation options. Also, Live Photos record more than a simple still, which means the pictures come to life with movement when you press on them.

The only hardware change to the new generation of iPhones was the addition of the Rose Gold shell. However, Apple doesn't disclose a sales breakdown by color. Samsung does not disclose similar device sales numbers.

This is the first year that Apple has offered its own yearly upgrade plan to compete with carriers, though it is a bit more expensive than going directly through a carrier. For instance, a 16GB iPhone 6s will cost you $32 per month for 2 years ($768 total), instead of $650 up front for an unlocked device. Through the iPhone Upgrade program you can choose the carrier you want and Apple will through in Apple Car+.

Stay tuned for our full review of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus later today (Sept. 28).
