iPhone 6 Looks Crazy Thin in New Leaked Photos

The iPhone 6 has already been the subject of several concept designs and other mockups, but a French site claims to have obtained what could be actual leaked photos of Apple's new flagship device. And if they're real, it looks like you may be able to floss with the handset.

Sporting rounded edges and a barely-there profile, the new images from French site Nowwhereelse.fr show an iPhone that has almost no bezel on the sides and a considerably taller display. The screen apparently measures 4.7 inches diagonally, which matches up with other reports we've seen. However, the site doesn't have any photos showing the purported 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6.

Analysts keep asking Apple CEO Tim Cook whether Apple will make a smartphone with a larger screen to compete against Samsung's phablets, but he always answers the same way: We won't make go big unless we can do so without making trade-offs. Has Apple finally done it?

Perhaps Apple's experimentation with Liquid Metal holds the key for a thinner but stronger iPhone.Another way Apple could be shaving millimeters could be its new camera design. A rumor has the company splitting thecamera into two modules, one that would capture color and another light, which could take up less vertical room.

To be clear, the new 5-inch Galaxy S5 isn't exactly unwieldy at 5.6 x 2.9 x .31 inches and 5.1 ounces, but it's significantly heavier and larger than the iPhone 5s (4.9 x 2.3 x .3 ounces, 3.95 ounces). It's not as easy to use with one hand. If Apple were somehow able to grow the display by .7 inches and keep the weight under 4.5 ounces that would be quite the engineering feat.

Design has always been a strength for the iPhone, but Apple has come under attack on that front by the likes of HTC, whose new One M8 features a sleek all-metal design. However, that 5-inch beast weighs in at 5.6 ounces.

With Apple not expected to release the iPhone 6 until the fall, we have a long way to go until we get the real deal in our hands. But it's safe to say that the company's design mantra for the phone is go big--and thin--or go home.
