Iowa woman murdered, 2 more found dead in Dane county, all connected

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Authorities in Dane County are investigating an odd murder situation after three people were killed following the murder of an Iowa woman. Authorities were at a home early Thursday (4/11/24) in the town of Albion where police say a man barricaded himself in a home after allegedly fleeing Iowa where a woman was found dead in her home. Police have identified the man as Alexander Grunke.

Authorities say Grunke fled Iowa with the woman’s five-month-old child and her 13-year-old daughter. The 13-year-old was involved in a shootout with police, according to authorities, and was killed. At some point, Grunke and another woman were reported roaming the streets with weapons in Albion.

Grunke and the woman were found dead inside the home where they held police at bay. Authorities say they believe Grunke took his own life. They have not said how the woman died. Authorities say the five-month-old child was abandoned at a home and is in the custody of Child Protective Services.
