Iowa police union ratifies tentative deal with state negotiators on bargaining agreement
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A union representing 600 Iowa police officers has ratified a tentative deal with the state on a two-year bargaining agreement.
The State Police Officers Council ratified the contract Wednesday. It calls for health insurance premiums to go up by 5 percent, but participation in a wellness program would lower it. It does not give across the board salary increases but provides a one-time increase totaling 1.5 percent during both years of the contract, which goes into effect in July.
The state is still in negotiations with Iowa United Professionals and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
Gov. Terry Branstad is seeking similar health care contributions from state workers represented by AFSCME. The union's top official has criticized the proposals.
