State opens office to support film, TV, media production in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The state is opening a new office to support film, television and digital media production in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs announced the office Wednesday in a news release. The office, called Produce Iowa, will be headed by Liz Gilman, who has experience running her own media-related business.

Produce will be part of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, along with the State Historical Society of Iowa, State Historical Museum of Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council.

Film production has been a headache for Iowa officials.

Then-Gov. Chet Culver halted an ambitious program in 2009 after a state audit uncovered $26 million in tax credits that were improperly issued by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
