Iowa candymaker Palmer updates recall list for possible salmonella contamination
Updates have been made to a recall from an Iowa candymaker due to possible salmonella contamination.
Palmer Candy Co.. of Sioux City originally announced a recall for 29 of its products May 6 after the supplier of its white coatings for certain products reported the potential for contamination, which had in turn come from dairy products from one of its suppliers.
The revised list, released Friday, updated the best-by dates for six of the products. A U.S. Food and Drug Administration news release said the update also added two products not on the original list, but showed three additions on an attached list.

The recalled items were distributed nationwide in Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target, Dollar General, and to distributors in Iowa, Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
According to a report from the FDA Saturday, production of the products has been suspended while the FDA and Palmer continue their investigation of the source of the problem.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the possible contamination.
Consumers who have purchased white-coated confectionary items manufactured by Palmer are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 800-831-0828 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
