Iota residents react to storm knocking out power for nearly entire town

IOTA, La. (KLFY)– The town of Iota was hit hard by Wednesday morning’s powerful storm. Nearly the entire town lost power.

“I left the wife at home. She called me about 7:45. She was scared to death, said she had never been in nothing like this before,” Iota resident Morris Ledet said.

“I got a wife at home. She needs to take her breathing treatment. She needs electricity for that. I got a bunch of eggs in the incubator. They’re all going to die. They’re all going to go to waste. Can’t do nothing,” another resident named Thomas added.

Many people got water, batteries for fans and other supplies where they can find it.

“In this little town, there’s nothing open,” Thomas said. “Both the dollar stores are closed. Gas stations are closed. You can’t do nothing.”

Some residents enjoyed the afternoon’s pleasant weather, but the longer the power is out, the more plans are needed.

“We’re walking the dogs now, and we’re probably going to go get a hotel room for the night and see what happens from there,” Ledet told News 10. “They’re saying maybe possibly a couple days before we have power back here in Iota.”

Iota Police Chief David Scott Pousson said the town is resilient, and it was amazing to see people come together, removing trees and making sure their neighbors were okay.

“It was very awesome. It was a wonderful sight to see,” Pousson said. “I just want to say how great this little town is. Through thick or thin, we’re going to make it.”

No one was injured during the storm in the town of Iota.
