IOC opens TV rights bidding in Asia

IOC opens bid process for Olympic television rights in 24 Asian countries

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- The IOC has opened the bidding process for broadcast rights in Asia for the 2014 and 2016 Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee says it will consider bids for the rights in 24 countries, ranging from Afghanistan to Vietnam.

The deal will cover the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, and 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as well as next year's Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.

The IOC says it will consider "supplemental bids" for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the 2020 Summer Games.

The IOC is looking for organizations "who can guarantee full exploitation of the rights either on a multi-territory or country-by-country basis."

The deadline for submission of bids is July 5.
