IOC to hold hearings for positive retests of 2004 Athens samples

LONDON - The IOC will hold hearings next month for the athletes whose doping samples came back positive in retests from the 2004 Athens Olympics.

IOC medical commission chairman Arne Ljungqvist tells The Associated Press that disciplinary hearings will determine whether the athletes should be disqualified and stripped of any medals.

Five samples came back positive this year when the IOC retested about 100 Athens samples.

Ivan Tskikhan of Belarus, who won the silver medal in the hammer throw in Athens, was publicly identified by the Belarus Olympic Committee and sent home from the London Games.

The IOC has not identified the other athletes.
