In the following excerpt from the Investing Strategies Report, an expert portfolio manager discusses his methodology and top large cap international growth stocks for investors:

TWST: Can you give us an overview of the Scout Global Equity Fund's investment philosophy and strategy?

Mr. Anderson: The Global Fund is a little different than your average fund. It is actually a group of what we call sleeves - subportfolios. There are five of these sleeves that make up the portfolio, and Jim Reed and I run the two largest as the co-managers of the Global Fund. He runs the large-cap domestic and I run the actual portfolio selection for the large-cap international.

Today I plan to talk about my role in the large-cap international sleeve, which being one of the largest two sleeves will have the largest positions in the fund. We also have a small sleeve that provides domestic midcap, a small sleeve that has domestic small cap and then a very small one that has emerging markets in it. So it represents, within Scout, our internal management of what is a very global perspective across regions and across cap size.

Now the sleeve or the subportfolio that I manage is the international portfolio, and I run it as a large cap for the most part, but I do mix in a little bit of midcap and a little bit of small cap from time to time. The approach that I use is what I would describe at a country level as looking at very developed, stable economies with low political risk, where the rule of law is evident. Occasionally I will do emerging markets, but only on a very limited basis. I like to think of what I'm doing as the best of value and growth...
