Investigation underway as woman’s death linked to barn fire in Ridgefield

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities have identified the 44-year-old woman killed in a Ridgefield barn fire early Monday morning.

Fire crews discovered Melissa Adams’ body after extinguishing the flames that had fully engulfed the building at 29416 NW 51st Avenue and spread to a nearby RV.

When officials first arrived at 7 a.m., bystanders told firefighters Adams was still inside.

Another resident at the scene had to be restrained while trying to run into the burning building. Officials said the severity of the fire “would have led to certain death of anyone making entry without protective gear.”

Fire investigators were not able to make their way into the barn until 8:30 a.m.

A medical examiner has yet to determine the exact cause of her death. An investigation is ongoing.
