Investigation continuing in death of 17-year-old Barnwell teen, unborn child

BARNWELL, S.C. (WJBF) — An investigation is continuing in Barnwell following the death of a 17-year-old and her unborn child. Maylashia Hogg was found dead behind Fuller Park in February after missing for nearly two weeks. Barnwell Police Department discovered her body. SLED is now leading the investigation.

“I don’t even know who that girl was,” George Donaldson said. “Only way I know information about her is what the news tell me.”

George Donaldson explained that SLED officers visited him a few days ago about his nephews’ involvement in the investigation. Shortly after, an officer notified him about his car being confiscated. He confirmed that the authorities had seized the car from his nephew’s school. “He said, we don’t have to show you the warrant because it’s a conceal. And I kept calling and trying to find out, get some information on, find out what’s going on.”

“They got my two sons involved with this. And my other son, he wasn’t even here when all this happened,” Herman Donaldson added.

Herman Donaldson expressed frustration over being linked to the Malaysia Hogg case. A police officer linked his son’s number to the investigation, interrogated him in a car, and then told Herman his son was going to be swabbed. “They looking at the wrong people and somebody pointing the finger at us for no reason and we ain’t got nothing to do with that,” Herman said. “We didn’t deal with that girl ain’t mess with her. Plus they ain’t go to everybody’s houses.”

“Everybody know what was going on. And this is a small town. I’m not worrying about my life being in safety because I can handle myself. I worry about my child. Either of my children,” George added.

The Barnwell Police and SLED declined to comment on the investigation. If you have any information, you are asked to contact law enforcement.
