Investigation continues in University Park Mall shooting; no victims or suspect identified

SOUTH BEND — The Mishawaka Police Department continues its ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred Saturday night at University Park Mall, saying that more information may be released by the end of the day Monday.

Mishawaka Police, St. Joseph County Police, South Bend Police and Indiana State Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire within the mall around 6:19 p.m. May 11.

On the scene, Mishawaka Police Department Assistant Chief Dan Gebo stated that there had been no reports of injuries and that police were looking for the shooter. Police were working on evacuating the mall at that time.

On Monday morning, he told The Tribune that this investigation remains ongoing.

"We're trying to locate witnesses and going through video that we received," Gebo said.

Mall spokesman Christian Carlson declined to comment Saturday night, saying all communication was being deferred to Mishawaka police for the ongoing investigation.
