Introducing the 2024 Wichita Eagle high school boys and girls wrestling All-Metro teams

The Wichita area featured some of the best high school wrestlers in Kansas this season and that star power is highlighted on The Wichita Eagle’s 2024 All-Metro boys and girls wrestling teams.

The All-Metro squad consists of the top wrestlers and a top coach from Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties based on season-long performances with an emphasis on state results.

Andale senior Owen Eck, a four-time state champion, was named the Boys Wrestler of the Year, while Derby senior Amara Ehsa, a three-time state champion, was named the Girls Wrestler of the Year.

2024 Wichita Eagle All-Metro Boys Wrestling team

Owen Eck, Andale senior

Joined the prestigious list of four-time state champions in Kansas history, becoming the first in Andale history by winning the 4A title at 157 to highlight a 27-1 season.

Omari Elias, Kapaun Mt. Carmel

The Air Force football signee added a wrestling state title to end his high school career, winning the 5A title at 190 with a dominant 40-1 season.

Ayden Flores, Maize senior

Not only won his second straight state title, but capped a perfect 47-0 season with a major-decision victory in the 190 finals in 6A.

Jayden Grijalva, Derby junior

Won the 6A title at 106 in dramatic fashion, scoring the winning takedown in overtime to cap a 36-3 season.

Jacob Goodwin, Goddard junior

Fought through injuries to win his second straight state title, this time in the 150 division in 5A with a pinfall in the finals to cap a 23-3 season.

Damon Ingram, Rose Hill junior

Avenged his loss in last year’s state finals by winning the 4A title at 138 with a pinfall in the finals to highlight a 41-1 season.

Johnny Leck, Rose Hill junior

In his third straight year in the state finals, he won his second state 4A title with a win in the 132 finals to cap a 38-3 season.

Adam Maki, Andover senior

Successfully defended his 5A state title by winning the 138 division in dominant fashion to highlight a 49-3 season.

Kolton McElwain, Goddard sophomore

Shook off an injury-riddled season to peak at the right time, winning the 5A title with a dramatic comeback in the 126 finals to cap an 18-6 season.

Braxton Moody, Valley Center junior

Won by pinfall in the 5A finals to cap a dominant run to the 113 title to end a 32-8 season.

Dai’Mont Mucker, Valley Center senior

The star football running back won his first wrestling state title, capping a 25-2 season with the 5A title at 215.

Luke Potter, Andover junior

Scored the only takedown to emerge victorious in the 132 finals to win the 5A crown and cap a 45-win season.

David Sample, Goddard junior

Converted a last-second takedown to win the 165 title in 5A to cap a 32-4 season.

Aiden Shields, Valley Center junior

Came out on top of a dramatic rematch in the 120 finals to capture the 5A state title in a 28-7 season.

Bradley Trimmell, Andover senior

Capped a dominant 52-win season with a major-decision victory in the 157 finals to end his career on top of the podium with a 5A title.

Zachary Wessley, Goddard senior

Spent time as the top-ranked wrestler in the state at 175, the former state champion ended career with a fifth-place finish at 5A in 175 to cap an 18-2 season.

Samson Whitted, Rose Hill junior

Finished off a dominant 39-2 season with a pinfall in the 106 finals to capture the 4A title.

Ronan Wunsch, Maize senior

Shook off a devastating loss at the 5A state tournament to bounce back for a third-place finish at 215 to cap a 49-1 season.

2024 Wichita Eagle All-Metro Girls Wrestling team

Callyn Divine, Halstead freshman

One of the top wrestlers in the state as a freshman, Divine reached the 4-1A finals and finished runner-up at 130 to cap a 40-1 season.

Amara Ehsa, Derby senior

Won three straight 6A state titles, despite entering the state tournament not favored all three times. Finished off a 31-4 season by beating the top-ranked wrestler in 6-5A finals to win 105 title.

Jill High, Augusta senior

A four-time state medalist at the 4-1A state tournament, High notched her second straight runner-up finish at 125 to cap a 33-3 season.

Avery Hinojos, Newton sophomore

Reached the 110 finals at the 6-5A state tournament to cap a 35-4 season.

Meya Howell, Maize South senior

Became the first state champion in district history in an emotional title after losing in two previous finals, winning the 6-5A title at 235 to cap a 24-1 season.

Jayla Johnson, Kapaun Mt. Carmel senior

Became the first state champion in school history after beating the state’s top-ranked wrestler in the division to win the 5A title at 140 to cap a 31-3 season.

Leiannah Landreth, Mulvane junior

Notched her third straight top-three finish at the 4-1A state tournament, finishing runner-up at 120 to cap a 36-3 season.

Veronica Madrid, Derby freshman

One of the top freshmen in the state, Madrid reached the 6-5A finals at 155 and finished runner-up to cap a 34-2 season.

Alexis Means, Bishop Carroll junior

The City League champion notched a career-best fourth-place finish at the 6-5A state tournament at 135 to finish off a 34-5 season.

Alexis Wall, Circle freshman

Ended the debut season with a dramatic victory in overtime of the state finals to win the 4-1A title at 100 to cap a 26-3 season.

Trinity Williams, Derby senior

Finished off a 22-1 season to end her career with a third-place finish at the 6-5A state tournament at 235.
