Interstate 85 South reopens in Gaston County, 7 miles of congestion remains

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Interstate 85 southbound has reopened in Lowell Friday afternoon following police activity, according to NCDOT.

About 7 miles of congestion remains in the area. The interstate was shut down near S Main Street, at Exit 22, near mile marker 22.

Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling through the area.

Previous Detour: Drivers have been asked to use Exit 22, S Main Street, then go right on S Main Street, and then go left to Lowell Road to I-85 South.

NCDOT reported that the area reopened around 5:15 p.m. Friday.
