Interstate 85 crash in Macon County may be road rage; child rescued, adult ejected

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (WRBL) – A two-vehicle crash involving a young child on Interstate 85 North near the Macon County Rest Stop is being investigated as a possible road rage incident.

Macon County Sheriff André Brunson says one person was ejected in the crash and had to be flown to a hospital. The sheriff says a young child was rescued from a crashed vehicle and is expected to recover.

Sheriff Brunson says it appears the two drivers knew one another and were coming from the Tuskegee area when they got onto Interstate 85. Brunson says one gun was recovered from the scene, but it does not appear any shots were fired before the two vehicles collided.

The crash happened at approximately 11:34 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16. Traffic came to a grinding halt as both northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the 43-mile marker in Macon County were blocked.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are on scene investigating and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
