It’s no secret that we need to see more women of color in the media today. Which is precisely why so many people are thrilled to see the celebration of diversity in Allure‘s April issue. Inside the magazine you’ll find 41 different women of color who talk about their experiences facing racial discrimination and how it’s shaped them. It’s inspiring to see — and extremely relevant considering all the prejudice towards people of color we’ve seen lately.

Dilone, Aamito Lagum, and Imaam Hammam are the gorgeous models who donned the cover of Allure, and they’re representing all the women of color who have been pushed aside for so long. Oh, and did we mention? They look absolutely radiant.

Inside the issue of Allure, women like Meghan Markle, Padma Lakshmi, Constance Wu, and Zoë Kravitz were given the platform to talk about their childhood, their career, and the issue of diversity in Hollywood. Not surprisingly, the Internet had some feelings about this display of powerful women.

People were quick to dish out praise to Michelle Lee, the editor-in-chief of Allure, who turned this diversity dream into a reality.

We agree — kudos to you, Michelle, for reminding everyone how beautiful diversity is, even though there are hardly any other magazines that would do the same.

It’s important to keep in mind that this cover certainly doesn’t erase the fact that diversity in the fashion world is rare to see, and it certainly doesn’t do away with all the cultural appropriation that has previously taken place in the magazine world. But we can’t help but think of it as a step in the right direction.
