International Criminal Court to debate where Moammar Gadhafi's son should be put on trial
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - The International Criminal Court is holding a two-day hearing into where the eldest son of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi should be put on trial.
Seif al-Islam Gadhafi is charged by the international court with crimes against humanity for his alleged involvement in the deadly crackdown on dissent against his father's rule. However Libyan authorities say they want to prosecute him at home, where he is being held.
ICC spokesman Fadi El Abdallah said Libya will likely argue at Tuesday's hearing that it is "capable and willing to prosecute Mr. Gadhafi."
Under the Hague-based court's founding statute, it can only step in if the country where crimes were committed is unable or unwilling to prosecute.
No ruling is expected this week on where Gadhafi will be tried.
