Interested in firefighting? Las Vegas firefighters to hold free community boot camp

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Do you have what it takes to be a firefighter? Las Vegas Fire and Rescue is hosting a free community boot camp to recruit more firefighters. People ages 14 and older can participate in challenging workouts alongside real-life firefighters and learn what it takes to be on the frontline.

The boot camp is an effort to entice more men and women to think about a firefighting career ahead of the department’s firefighter recruitment on Monday, June 3, as well as its upcoming LVFR Explorer Program recruitment later this summer. The LVFR Explorer program educates, trains, and mentors people ages 15 to 25 who want to learn more about the fire service.

The Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Community Boot Camp takes place Sunday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at the lower parking lot of the Cashman Field Complex at 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Free parking will be available in the upper lot of the Cashman Complex.

Firefighter recruitment is open to those ages 18 and older with a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license. Candidates will have to pass a written firefighter exam and physical fitness assessment. Current emergency medical technician or paramedic certification is preferred; wildfire experience, veteran status, military experience, and bi-lingual fluency are all considered pluses candidates.
