Inspired by movie, MI man buys lottery ticket — and wins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Michigan lottery winner was inspired by a movie to buy a scratch-off ticket.

“I was watching a movie and the main character won big on a lottery ticket. The main character was my look-alike, so I took it as a sign to go buy a ticket,” the 26-year-old man, who is remaining anonymous, said in a Wednesday release from the Michigan Lottery.

The Genesee County resident stopped by the E-Z Stop Food Market in Flint and bought a Lucky No. 13 Instant Game.

“Later that day, I was with some friends and scratched the ticket. When I saw I’d won $500,000, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he said. “I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was real before sharing the news with my friends, so I went into the bathroom to look the ticket over again.”

He said he then called his girlfriend to tell her he won.

The winner added he feels “so blessed to win” the half a million dollars. He plans on using the money to take care of his kids and to go on vacation, the Michigan Lottery said.
