SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — This week on Inside Utah Politics, we set our sights on families and sports.

We’ll talk with Aimee Winder Newton. She’s in charge of Utah’s Office of Families. Winder Newton discusses her priorities going forward, including preparing young people for marriage, offering more mental health resources to children and a pilot program to help vulnerable families. The Office of Families is a unique one – the only state office of its kind in the country. Winder Newton is the sole staff member. As you’ll hear, she has a lot of work she wants to do.

It’s been a busy week of sports news in Utah. ABC4 sports anchor Wesley Ruff lends his perspective about Utah’s incoming hockey team and the bid to host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. Ruff brings his decades of experience covering Utah sports to sum up a historical moment in our state’s history.

We also turn our attention to Washington, where an impeachment trial for Homeland Security Secretary Alajandro Mayorkas will not happen after all. House Republicans voted to impeach Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis, but Democrats in the Senate put a stop to what they called political theater.

We are also following developments on America’s foreign aid to Ukraine and Israel. House Speaker Mike Johnson is working with Democrats to pass a deal. Some Republicans are unhappy with the bipartisanship and want to oust Johnson from his position.

Inside Utah Politics airs Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. on ABC4.
