Inmate dies at Houston County Jail

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A male inmate was found dead in the Houston County Jail Friday morning, Sheriff Donald Valenza confirmed to WDHN.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd identified the inmate as 27-year-old Andrew Martinez of Enterprise.

Sheriff Valenza says Martinez was booked into the jail early Friday morning and was found dead at around 9:00 a.m.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the State Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the investigation.

The inmate’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy and official cause of death.
