Infant in stroller killed, mom critically injured and another man hurt after hit-run driver plows into them on Brooklyn street

An infant died, the mother was critically injured and another man was hurt after a hit-and-run driver mowed the trio down at a Brooklyn intersection Saturday, police said.

The 3-month-old and the mom were struck at the intersection of Gates Ave. and Vanderbilt Ave. in Clinton Hill about 6:20 p.m., cops said.

A third victim, a 38-year-old man, was also struck and injured. It was was not immediately clear if the man is related to the baby and mother, police said.

A 2017 Honda Civic was speeding the wrong way down Gates Ave. when it struck a 2020 Honda Civic, cops said. The impact of the crash sent one of the cars speeding toward the three victims, cops said.

It was not immediately clear which car struck the victims.

The driver of the 2020 Honda Civic was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Brooklyn Methodist, and expected to recover.

The driver of the 2017 Honda Civic took off on foot, but a 29-year-old man believed to be the passenger of the older model Civic was taken into custody, cops said.

A stroller was left abandoned near the intersection, distressing images from the scene show.

The infant was rushed to Brooklyn Hospital, but could not be saved, police said. The infant’s mother was undergoing surgery at Brooklyn Methodist late Saturday, cops said.

The 38-year-old male victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment.

Police were still investigating the crash Saturday night and no names were immediately released.
