Indio fire temporarily cuts power to about 1,500 people

Firefighters extinguished an outdoor fire that caused a brief power outage for about 1,500 people Sunday in Indio.

The fire was reported at 10:35 a.m. Sunday in the 43000 block of Business Center Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

An electric pole was involved in the fire, and the Imperial Irrigation District cut power to the area, affecting around 1,500 customers.

The power was restored shortly after the fire was extinguished, but the IID predicted that work on the pole would continue for about eight hours, and said additional power disruptions were possible.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
