Indiana voters head to the polls on Tuesday
Indiana voters will head to the polls May 8 for 2018 primary elections.
Southern Indiana voters will cast ballots for Republican candidates for U.S. Senate and sixth and ninth congressional district and local races. (Uncontested races are not listed)
Senate Republican primary race:
Indiana's U.S. Senate Republic primary is up for grabs in a three-way race between Rep. Luke Messer of the Sixth District and Rep. Todd Rokita of the Fourth District and businessman and former State Rep. Mike Braun of Jasper.
The winner of the Republican primary advances to face Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly, who is unopposed in the primary.
All nine of Indiana's congressional seats are on the ballot in Tuesday’s primary.
9th District primary races:
Ninth District incumbent Republican Rep. Trey Hollingsworth faces one challenger in his first bid for re-election, James Dean Alspach.
Three Democrats, Dan Canon, Rob Chatlos and Liz Watson, are vying for a spot on the ballot in November.
Canon is a civil rights lawyer who went before the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark gay marriage case.
Chatlos is a truck driver.
Watson is also an attorney and former labor policy advisor to Democrats in Congress.
The Ninth District has been held by Republicans since 2010 when now-Sen. Todd Young beat incumbent Baron Hill.
6th District primary races:
With Republican Rep. Luke Messer’s run for Senate, the 6th District seat is up for grabs with crowded primaries on either side.
On the Republican side, Vice President Mike Pence’s brother, Greg Pence, and Mike Campbell, Jonathan Lamb, Stephen MacKenzie and Jeff Smith are competing for the nomination.
The Democrat side features a six-candidate field of George Holland, Jeannine Lee Lake, K. (Jason) Lave, Jim Pruett, Lane Siekman and Joshua Williamson.
