Democrats to announce articles of impeachment against Trump

In a news conference Tuesday morning, House Democrats will, in a historic move rarely seen in our nation's history, announce articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, a senior Democratic aide told USA TODAY. Democrats plan to announce at least two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — and they are expected to revolve around Trump requesting Ukraine to investigate matters that would help him politically, including the 2016 election and former Vice President Joe Biden, a 2020 rival. The announcement will come one day after a contentious hearing in which the House Judiciary Committee heard from Intelligence Committee attorneys, Daniel Goldman for the Democrats and Stephen Castor for the Republicans. The attorneys presented reports on findings in the Ukraine matter and fielded questions from lawmakers.

Trump continues swing-state courtship with Pennsylvania rally

President Donald Trump on Tuesday will hold a rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania, as he courts a state that aided his victory in 2016 and will likely be an important toss-up in 2020. Recent visits to swing states like Pennsylvania, which Trump narrowly won in 2016, suggest the president has his eye on his reelection even while battling impeachment back in Washington. Shortly before Thanksgiving, Trump rallied with Vice President Mike Pence in Sunrise, Florida, which former President Barack Obama won in 2008 and 2012. On Dec. 18, he'll hold a rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, which he won by less than 11,000 votes.

Nobel Prize winners take turn in the spotlight

Ceremonies honoring the winners of this year's Nobel Prizes will be held Tuesday. The ceremony for the prize laureates in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics takes place each year in Stockholm, Sweden, while the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize is honored in Oslo, Norway. The 2019 Peace Prize went to Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his efforts to resolve the 20-year border conflict between his nation and neighboring Eritrea. Nobel winners receive a diploma, a medal and a cash award.

Get ready to shiver: Cold weather hits central and eastern US

Some of the coldest air of the season is poised to barrel into portions of the central and eastern United States over the next couple of days, forecasters say. "Very cold Arctic air will plunge southward into the northern and central Plains through Monday and into the Great Lakes and Midwest Monday and Tuesday," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Jack Boston said.Howling winds will drop the wind chill to a numbing 25 degrees below zero in some parts of the northern Plains, the National Weather Service said.The cold will then plow east from Tuesday into Thursday, sending temperatures plummeting by some 30 degrees.
