Illinois facing first-round challenge in OVC Tournament champions

OMAHA, Neb. (WCIA) — Illinois has high hopes for this year’s NCAA Tournament run, but it all begins with a first-round game against the champions of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Morehead State, a school of 8,600 students in Morehead, Kentucky, is making its second NCAA Tournament appearance in four years.

“They’re a great team,” said Illinois guard Ty Rodgers. “They won their conference, they have some great players, and they do a lot of good things.”

The Eagles are 26-8 heading into this game, falling to three Big Ten opponents this season.

Illinois took the court in Omaha on Wednesday afternoon for a practice session in front of fans.

“I know this is about to be a fun tournament to play in,” said Illinois guard Justin Harmon. “It’s my first tournament, and I’m just ready to have fun.”

The Illini will take on Morehead State on Thursday at 2:10 p.m. on truTV.
