Illinois could pay more to those wrongfully convicted of crimes

Those wrongfully convicted of crimes in Illinois could soon get more money from the state.

A proposal would raise the compensation cap for exonerees to $50,000 a year for every year they were wrongfully imprisoned. The legislation also includes $25,000 per year wrongfully spent on parole, probation or sex offender registry. The Illinois Innocence Project says people get an average of more than $11,000 a year for every year they were wrongfully kept behind
