Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is pushing for a bill he says would end discrimination
when it comes to setting rates for auto insurance.

The bill would allow insurance companies to only take into account someone’s driving record when setting up their auto insurance rate and not socioeconomic factors like race, age, gender
and credit scores. Insurance companies can use data from third party sources to charge people higher insurance premiums based on those socioeconomic factors.

That data can include credit scores, homeownership status and zip code.
