UPDATE: Giannoulias said on social media no explosive devices were found and employees were let back into the building around 1:45 p.m.

Lawmakers are on recess this week, and are scheduled to return April 30, according to the Illinois General Assembly’s website.


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — People are being evacuated out of the State Capitol after a threatening 911 call.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias posted the following statement on social media on Monday.

“The State Capitol building has been evacuated after a threatening 911 call triggered our alert system at 12:55 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”

The Illinois State Capitol was also on lockdown Sunday due to a bomb threat.
