CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — As a pro-Palestine protest is ongoing on UIUC campus just ahead of the Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend, WCIA reached out to race officials to see if any changes have been made in regards to safety planning.

Officials with the race said they are aware of the demonstrations happening near the courses and are working with local law enforcement to monitor the situation.

They added that their organization is aiming to facilitate the opportunity for people to practice their First Amendment rights in coordination with allowing race participants to experience the event as planned.

As a community event focused on creating a memorable experience for all who engage with our race, our goal is that courtesy and respect prevail throughout this weekend’s events. Whether you’re here to run our course, cheer on your friends and family, or share your points of view, we ask for everyone’s partnership in this goal!

We want to thank our community in advance for joining us in creating a spirit of cooperation!
