IFC Midnight Delivers Rights To Horror Pic ‘Antibirth’

Exclusive: IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to the body horror film Antibirth from writer-director Danny Perez. Starring Natasha Lyonne, Chloë Sevigny, Meg Tilly, and Mark Webber, the story follows trailer dweller Lou (Lyonne) and her best friend Sadie (Sevigny). Spending their nights in pot and booze-fueled marathon TV binges, they leave only to party with a desolate community of drug-addled ex-marines and other outcasts. Following one such night, Lou experiences symptoms of a bizarre illness and psychosomatic visions she can’t shake. Unable to remember anything from the night before, she struggles to get a grip on her situation as her symptoms grow at a rapid pace and something otherworldly has infected her body that refuses to be ignored.

“I’m excited to be teaming up with IFC Midnight. Their passion and understanding of this film felt like the perfect way to bring this unique story to the world,” says Perez. “Natasha’s bold performance brings this challenging character to humorous life in ways fans of Lyonne haven’t seen her before. It was a pleasure to collaborate with such great talent.”

Plans for distribution of Antibirth will be announced at a later date. Produced by Cole Payne, Roger M. Mayer, David Anselmo, Justin Kelly and Lyonne, the film made its world premiere in the Midnight section of Sundance 2016. The deal was negotiated with Preferred Content and Traverse Media on behalf of the filmmakers. Green Light International will be handling international sales.
