IDOT to resume milling, resurfacing project on IL 121

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — The resurfacing project on Illinois 121 through Mt. Zion, from U.S. 36 to southern limits of Mt. Zion, is resuming on Monday, April 15, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced.

The $11.9 million project is partially complete, with upgraded traffic signals sand sidewalk ramps already finished. Still remaining are the milling, resurfacing and striping. Because of this, one lane of traffic will be operating in each direction, with barricades and signs directing traffic.

IDOT officials say the project’s benefits include safer intersections and smoother roads.

They added that drivers should expect some delays and allow extra time for traveling through the area, or take alternate routes. They also urge drivers to exercise caution when in the work zones, obeying speed limits and remaining alert for workers and equipment.

The project is expected to finish by mid-June this year.

The project is part of a more long-term goal, the Rebuild Illinois program, where over the next six years, IDOT plans to improve 3,000 miles of highways and 10 million feet of bridges.
